Jobs Data: Disability employment stuck at same level

Australia’s July 2025 Jobs Report shows that employment for people with disabilities has stayed steady — but advocates say steady isn’t good enough.

By Kessler Foundation – The Mirage

While the national unemployment rate dropped to 3.8%, the employment rate for people with disabilities remains unchanged at around 54% — far below the 84% for people without disabilities. This stubborn gap reminds us that real barriers still block thousands from meaningful work.

Experts are calling for employers to turn promises into action: removing physical and attitudinal barriers, improving recruitment practices, and creating inclusive pathways from education to employment.

At Disability Connect, we know that stable numbers shouldn’t mean standing still. It’s time to push forward, open more doors, and connect the incredible talent in our community with the workplaces that need them.

Steady can’t be the goal — progress must be. Let’s close the gap together.
