Requirements :

Grade 12 plus appropriate Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Production (NQF level 7)/ B-Tech degree in Animal Health or Agriculture (NQF level 7) or relevant qualification as recognized by SAQA. Post graduate qualification in Animal Production (NQF Level 8) would be an added advantage. 5 years’ practical experience in Animal Production (Ruminants). Must be registered with a professional council (SACNSP). Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license. COMPETENCIES: Computer literacy, communication skills (both written and verbal). Presentation skills, programme and project management skills, technical report writing skills, team orientation and people management skills, data analysis and policy development skills. Proven experience in animal production with major focus on livestock farmer development. Knowledge of legislations relevant to the field of livestock production.

Duties :

The management of Gauteng IDC Nguni Cattle development programme. Production support to other Gauteng livestock priority commodities (Ruminants and pigs). Participate in processes of reviewing and recommendation/ approval of livestock projects (e.g. participation in research committee meetings, recommendation on production plans for projects). Facilitate the setting of farm production standards, specifications and service levels according to Gauteng farmer commercialization strategic objectives to ensure optimum profitability and sustainability like production plans/ breeding system. Monitor Scientific efficiencies according to organizational goals (Livestock industry Monitoring and Livestock improvement Programmes). Align projects to organizational. Provide support and advice to the industry and stakeholders such as provision of technical services, partnership/ stakeholder management. Develop and maintain relationship/ collaboration (e.g. MoU, contracts etc). Ratify the evaluation, monitoring and dissemination of data. Design and develop appropriate scientific models to generate information and knowledge. Lead, coordinate and conduct basic and applied research or knowledge application.
