Requirements :

Grade 12 plus a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/ Degree in Agricultural Extension or relevant equivalent qualification as recognized by SAQA. 3-5 years’ experience in working with farmers. Registration with the SACNASP or relevant professional council. Must be in possession of a valid drivers’ licence.

COMPETENCIES: The incumbent should possess Experience in agricultural extension. The prospective candidate should be highly motivated and well organized with a strong work ethic, writing skills, good communication skills, conflict management, supervision skills, interpersonal skills, and organising skills. An understanding of agricultural development, coordination and facilitation with other developmental stakeholders. Have computer, project management, and presentation.

Duties :

Contribute to the implementation of the Food Security sub-programme projects by providing scientific, technical, and practical information, advice and training to clients in order to maximize their ability to produce agricultural commodities. The senior agricultural advisor will work with beneficiary groups, facilitating their development as a group, and assisting them to develop the capacity to become self-sufficient through agricultural production. Monitor and evaluate technical programme outputs. Work directly with project beneficiaries and stakeholders. Supervise, mentor and coach Agricultural Advisors. Provide technical support, training and advice to Agricultural Advisors and to farmers. Work as a member of project teams with Scientists, Economists, Veterinarians, etc doing direct extension work with beneficiaries, to ensure that they develop the skills needed for agricultural production. Assist and train farmer groups with technical skills needed for agricultural production. Conduct feasibility studies in partnership with Specialists and Economists for business plan development. Conduct study groups, farmers day and information days, etc. profiling of farmers. Present departmental programmes to clients and stakeholders. Evaluate and monitor CASP projects. Represent the Department at public and interdepartmental forums.
