The 2025 HESTA Excellence Awards celebrated outstanding contributions across Australia’s health and social care sectors — including two standout achievements that are redefining disability services. Winners were chosen from over 420 nominations and 24 national finalists.
Disability Services – Individual Leadership
Emma Weatherley, CEO of the FSHD Global Research Foundation, was recognised for her leadership in disability advocacy. As someone living with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), she launched the patient-led ‘CURE FSHD’ app. It centralises medical data, empowers people to manage their journey, and supports clinical trial participation.
Disability Services – Team Excellence
Mobility and Accessibility for Children and Adults Ltd (MACA) received the award for their transformative work in transport accessibility. As Australia’s sole organisation dedicated to equitable motor vehicle transport for people with disabilities, their advocacy has led to nationwide legislative change and improved safety for individuals and families.
Each winner received a $7,500 grant to support further education, services, or team development.
