Charity reports distress over potential PIP changes

A disability charity in Allerdale says it has seen a spike in calls from worried service-users after reports of potential changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Staff told local media that people are anxious about what any reforms could mean for daily living, mobility support and their ability to plan ahead.

The organisation described the mood as “distress and uncertainty”, with many callers unsure which proposals are under consideration, when decisions might be made, and how to get reliable advice. It urged clear, timely communication from government so claimants understand what—if anything—will change and where to seek help.

The charity also encouraged people not to make hasty decisions about their claims, but to contact advice services, gather documentation, and ask for accessible communication if needed. It said practical guidance now would reduce anxiety and prevent avoidable mistakes that could disrupt support.
