The Citi South Africa Disability Career Expo is South Africa’s largest gathering for promoting and enabling employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
The event brings together 1200 learners, graduates and entrepreneurs living with disabilities.
Corporate exhibitors showcase various opportunities ranging from bursaries, skills development programmes and jobs to the invited guests. This year’s exhibitors include a diversity of corporates, such as Citi South Africa, Santam, Old Mutual Insure, Momentum, Investec and Barloworld, among others, as well as councils and NGOs that represent and service people living with disabilities.
The prime intention of the Expo is to connect employers with school leavers and introduce them to their career employment opportunities. It also provides networking opportunities for entrepreneurs with disabilities and allows corporates to share challenges and opportunities, and collectively define an inclusive path forward for disability in the workplace.
Throughout the day, a variety of live demonstrations by professionals giving the guests insights on performing different jobs and what it takes as a person with a disability to perform them well. This year’s demonstrations include world renowned DJ Darkness, the SA Guide Dogs Association, Jumping Kids prosthetic solutions, the Association of Foot and Mouth Painters, Random Harvest Nursery and Safi ya’s Spices cooking presentations.
Added to the programme are talks by university professionals from Wits and UJ addressing student life as a person living with a disability.
