Former Eros School pupils and staff will come together next month to reconnect, honour those who shaped their lives, and raise funds for the special education school in Bridgetown.
Eros School caters for pupils with disabilities, including children with cerebral palsy, and has previously produced pupils who have excelled in sport at provincial and national levels.
Alumni group gives back
The Eros Alumni group was established by former pupils and staff who wanted to give back to the school and create opportunities for current pupils.
Sandra Fortuin, who joined Eros in 2019, helped establish the alumni group with former hostel resident Cameron Malan. Malan lived at the Eros hostel from the age of 10 to 21 and now serves as chairperson of the alumni group.
The group officially launched on March 8 last year and has grown to about 70 former pupils, hostel staff and former teachers.
Fundraiser to support Eros
The alumni’s first fundraiser will take place on Saturday, October 10, with 200 guests expected to attend.
Fortuin said the group was about more than “fundraising and wanted to help pupils explore opportunities beyond their limitations.”
Funds raised will go towards repairs to bedroom flooring, new bedding and curtains, with the longer-term goal of repairing the outdoor swimming pool.
Honouring the Eros community
The event will include dinner, motivational speakers, music by DJ Andre Wallace, to name a few.
The gala will be held at the Eros School hall from 3pm to 8pm. Tickets cost R300 per person or R500 for couples. Formal attire is required, said Fortuin.
