Inspiration through new book about cerebral palsy

An inspiration to many, Tracy Cohen is a freelance writer based in Cape Town. Living with cerebral palsy, she has overcome numerous challenges to live a life filled with triumphs. In her recently published book, Triumph, Cohen sheds light on the positive side of living with a disability.

Cohen’s book features stories of individuals with disabilities who have overcome their own set of challenges and achieved success in their respective fields. The book aims to inspire readers and highlight the strength and determination of disabled individuals. “The word ‘triumph’ came to me, and I thought it was appropriate for the book,” she said.

Working from home, Tracy has made accommodations to meet her needs, which include working at her own pace and in her own time. She often experiences pain and fatigue, which are common symptoms of cerebral palsy. She credits her mother as her biggest cheerleader and believes in the importance of having a support structure. “Due to all this I am unable to work a full-time job.”

Living in a world seemingly designed for able-bodied individuals, Cohen acknowledges the need for a more inclusive society. She mentioned that disabled people should not have to fit into the able-bodied world, but instead, the world should be inclusive. Her message to everyone is to always believe in themselves, even when others do not believe in them, encouraging individuals to seek out opportunities for themselves and have self-belief.

Despite her physical challenges, Cohen remains resilient, remembering Nietzsche’s famous adage, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”

Her story serves as an example of how individuals can overcome challenges and achieve success. “Self-belief is critical in making opportunities happen for oneself.”

It also features individuals who have their own set of challenges but have also overcome them and succeeded in their respective life arenas.

All proceeds from Triumph are donated to various charities supporting children and people living with disabilities. Her message of self-belief and determination has already made a significant impact on the lives of many, and her book is sure to inspire others to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they may face.
