Parents and caregivers of children with disabilities or mental illness are urged to join the new support group launched by SADAG.
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is launching a new free online mental health support group for parents and caregivers of children with mental illness or disabilities.
Taking care of a loved one with a mental illness or a disability can be emotionally and physically demanding and between preparing meals and keeping a schedule for giving out medication to keeping them clean, can take a toll on your mental health.
As a person that takes care of a child or a loved one with a mental illness or disability, it is important to get the support that you need, like this support group.
“My child too is my inspiration. She has ADD symptoms, which was my starting point for my research on mental health and wellness,” said the support group leader, Nelly.
“There’s not a lot of safety platforms and not enough psychologists within communities. If there are, they’re expensive, and few could afford them”.
“The benefits of this group are sharing experiences, information, resources and referrals in a supportive structure. A shared platform and audience are powerful tools to deal with pain.”
If you are a parent or caregiver of someone with a mental illness or disability contact Nelly on 072 348 1903 to be part of the group.
