Smith street housing includes specialist disability rentals

Construction has begun on the Smith Street Build-to-Rent project in Highgate, Perth, transforming a former public housing site into 109 one- and two-bedroom social, affordable, and specialist disability rental units.

By Build Australia

The redevelopment, led by Tetris Capital and PERKINS (WA) Pty Ltd in partnership with Community Housing Limited, builds on Stage 1 completion—the demolition of Stirling Towers and site preparation. The new apartments will be managed by Community Housing Limited.

Funded through Western Australia’s Housing Diversity Pipeline, the project is backed by more than AUD 30 million in state funding and AUD 46 million from the federal Social Housing Accelerator Payment fund.

Premier Roger Cook called the construction commencement a major milestone in expanding accessible housing, particularly as the state experiences rapid economic and population growth.
