The Northern Territory Government has launched a new Para Sport Unit within the NT Sports Academy, offering dedicated pathways for athletes with disabilities in Darwin—and across the Top End. Funded with $754,500 from the Australian Institute of Sport, and backed by NT Government and Paralympics Australia, this is the sixth Para‑sport hub nationally under the Para Uplift initiative.
The unit will scale access to training, coaching, and talent development – from grassroots to elite competition. Local para-athletes, disabled communities, and remote schools now gain structured support and visibility within mainstream sport systems.
Minister Jinson Charls emphasised that the investment is about inclusion, identity, and opportunity: “it’s an investment in sporting talent and the Territory’s Paralympic future”.
This programme is part of a broader national shift to reshape disability in sport—through strategic investment, performance coaching, and inclusive sport infrastructure leading into the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games.
