A police constable from Philippi East has made a meaningful difference in the life of a local family, showing just how powerful compassion and community support can be.
Constable Natalia Jibilikile has been recognised for going above and beyond her duties after helping to transform the home of a woman who uses a wheelchair and had been living in very poor conditions. The house, which previously had broken windows, no proper doors, and lacked basic necessities, has been completely restored into a safe and comfortable space.
After learning about the family’s situation, Jibilikile brought together local businesses, donors, and community members to assist. With their help, the home was repainted and fitted with new windows, doors, flooring, plumbing, tiles, and a secure roof, giving the family a renewed sense of dignity and hope.
She also made sure the family had essentials such as food, bedding, blankets, and furniture, improving their daily living conditions. The mother, who lives with a disability, and her Grade 10 daughter now have a much more stable and comfortable environment.
Jibilikile explained that supporting vulnerable people is something she is deeply committed to. After seeing the family’s struggles firsthand, she took action and gathered even more support, demonstrating how one person’s initiative can spark real change.
The family officially moved into their newly renovated home on 24 April, marking an emotional and hopeful new chapter.
