SASSA

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) was established in April 2006 through the SASSA Act of 2004. SASSA derives its mandate from the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Act 108 of 1996). Section 27 of the Constitution states that “everyone has the right to social security including if they are unable to support themselves and their dependents, appropriate social assistance.
